Are Homosexuals More at Risk of STIs?

The presence of homosexual communities in public spaces has raised concerns among some people. Increasing the risk of STI including HIV and various other sexually transmitted infections.
Two lecturers and one student of Al-Quran and Tafsir Studies of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) participated in the Annual Activity of the Association of Qur'anic Science and Tafsir (AIAT) throughout Indonesia held by IAIN Kediri. The event took place on September 2-5, 2024 with the theme “Towards a Surah-Based Research on the Qur'an”, which emphasizes the importance of surah-based research in Qur'anic studies.
The event featured renowned speakers, such as Prof. Dr. Nasaruddin Umar, M.A (Grand Sheikh of Istiqlal Mosque), Prof. Dr. Yasir bin Ismail Radi (Kolej University Islam Perlis, Malaysia), Dr. Ahmad Halil Thahir, M.Sc. Ahmad Halil Thahir, M.H.I. (IAIN Kediri), Prof. Jajang A. Rohmana, M.A. (UIN SGD Bandung), Dr. Didik Andriawan, M.Th.I. (UIT Lirboyo Kediri), and Ahmad Rafiq, Ph.D. (UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta).
In addition, UMS lecturers Dr. Abdullah Mahmud, M.Ag. and Andri Nirwana, Ph.D. were also present along with Mahmudul Hassan, a UMS Doctoral Program student from Bangladesh.
“The conference was attended by 186 participants from various higher education institutions throughout Indonesia. The presence of academics and researchers is a place to share knowledge, experiences, and the latest research results in the field of Al-Qur'an and Tafsir Science,” said Andri, Wednesday (10/9/2024).
UMS lecturers and foreign students were actively involved in a series of panel discussion activities. With research entitled “Interfaith Perspectives On Multicultural Education: Insights From The Quran And Hadith”, they also discussed strategies for developing Qur'anic Science and Tafsir study programs in Indonesia, and emphasized the importance of curriculum innovation and teaching methods that are more relevant to the needs of the times.
The event seemed even more interesting with the presence of Prof. Dr. M. Quraish Shihab, L.C., M.A., who gave a tafsir lecture and launched his latest book, Tafsir Bayani: Paradigma Bahasa dalam Kosakata Al-Qur’an which was dissected directly by Prof. Dr. Aksin Wijaya, M.Ag., tafsir lecturer from IAIN Ponorogo.
